Restaurant ratings and the Michelin star By joseph

January 19th, 2009

The Michelin Guide uses a system of symbols to identify the best hotels and restaurants within each comfort and price category.

For restaurants, Michelin stars are based on five criteria:

  • The quality of the products
  • The mastery of flavor and cooking
  • The “personality” of the cuisine
  • The value for the money
  • The consistency between visits

Michelin stars are awarded to restaurants offering the finest cooking, regardless of cuisine style. Stars represent only what is on the plate. They do not take into consideration interior decoration, service quality or table settings.

* = stars

*A very good restaurant in it’s category

**Excellent cooking and worth a detour

***Exceptional cooking and worth the journey

Rockenwagner Bakery Cafe By bearic

November 5th, 2008

My new favorite lunch/snack spot is Rockenwagner Bakery. With locations in Santa Monica and Venice, their cafes are fragrant with organic produce and freshly baked bread. Tons of delicious Salads, Sandwiches and Pastries. Though lunches can go over $10 for a simple salad to-go, you definitely get what you pay for. Their sweet pastries come in different shapes and flavors, baked to perfection. I also love their fresh modern vibe and commitment to be green with their bio degradable utensils and containers.

Simpang Asia, Culver City, CA By Olive Oil

November 2nd, 2008

Looking for great Indonesian food in the heart of Los Angeles, drop by Simpang Asia in Culver City, CA. The restaurant is right next to a well-stocked Indo Convenient store, filled with tons of goodies from South East Asia.

I had a plate Nasi Rames, a yummy combination of Tempe (soy based sidedish), beef, rice and flavorful sauces. The food is authentic, affordable and delicious, but the main attraction is definitely the various desserts the offer- Es Teler, Es Campur, etc. Try out Es Teler, a concoction of iced avocadoes, jackfruits, juices and condensed milk. Simply refreshing!

Royal T Experience By erwin

Waitresses at RoyalT Cafe

Royal T Cafe in Culver City, California is modeled after popular Japanese “Maid Cafe”, serving delectable pastries, sandwiches, salads and of course tea. My first experience at Royal T was both bizzare and inspiring. The cafe is located right in the armpit of Culver City’s art district, the environment is full decked with Takashi Murakami-esque imagery and interiors. The waitresses, dressed in Japanime Maid costumes, were friendly and playful. It was as if we were eating in a fantasy kitsch playland for adults.

The food was definitely overpriced, but you definitely go to Royal T for an overall experience and sensory overload. For the most part, the beautiful setting, interesting eating ware and delicious teas more than make up for the light and expensive menu of food. All and all, I definitely recommend the Spicy Tuna Tar Tar Sandwich with their famous Royal T Milk Tea. You won’t be disappointed.

The next time you are in the mood for something out of the ordinary, definitely check out Royal T.

Yamashiro, Hollywood By dailyyummy

October 13th, 2007

My first experience at Yamashiro was beautiful! Despite the fact that it was a little tough find the place and make a left turn (there was a huge concert at the Hollywood Bowl happening the same evening), my dinner date and I had a terrific experience dining and enjoying the legendary view from this classic LA joint.

I had the amazing Miso Salmon and my dinner date, Caitlin, had the pleasure of chowing down on the luscious baked chicken on top of fried brown rice. It was such a delight. The mood is romantic. The view was spectacular and the Mai Tais were wonderful. Loved the pineapple after taste. I wanted to stay there the whole night and our 3 hours at the restaurant went by like nothing.

I definitely recommend making the reservation the day before and be prepared to hit lots of traffic on the way there, especially during hot weekend nights.

Overall, fantastic and I would totally hit that place again in a heartbeat.

Congrats Gordon Ramsey! By dailyyummy

People.com reports
Gordon Ramsay’s NYC restaurant, Gordon Ramsay at the London, yesterday became the city’s only new eatery to win a coveted two out of three stars in the prestigious Michelin New York guide. That’s huge for Mr F Bomb! Congrats, hopefully he’ll be in a better mood next season.
